Aboriginal Mentorship Program
"Having a mentor made me feel like I had a person I could run to, to talk about my future with. Usually when I'm with friends, we don't really mention the future and talk seriously about it, but with my mentor, I was able to talk about what I want to do in the future and what I'm worried about." — Mentee
YWCA Vancouver's Aboriginal Mentorship Program aims to encourage healthy lifestyle choices in young Aboriginal girls through a one-to-one mentoring relationship with a positive role model.
In this after-school program, Aboriginal girls 12 to 17 are matched with a female Aboriginal volunteer based on common interests and personality compatibility. Together you'll meet for a few hours twice a month, having fun in recreational, social, cultural or educational activities.
There are also free monthly social events and workshops, giving both you and your mentor the opportunity to meet other women and youth in the program.
