BC Hydro employees give YWCA housing development an Extreme Makeover

Residents at YWCA Semlin Gardens now have brand-new spaces to enjoy, thanks to the dedicated employees at BC Hydro.

Twenty BC Hydro Powersmart employees recently recreated the social spaces of Semlin Gardens, which helps single mothers obtain independence and build a better future for themselves and their children. This ‘extreme makeover’ was organized by Inspire Canada!, which combines community-based team building activities with professional development activities.

Though the BC Hydro team was not made up of experienced artists or carpenters, in a single afternoon they managed to paint two wall murals, the lobby, amenities room and kitchen, as well as build outdoor benches and a pagoda.

The results were incredible and the moms at Semlin were thrilled. The afternoon ended with a lovely dinner for all of the volunteers, Semlin residents and their children.
