Boys 4 Real
After-School Program for Gr. 7 Boys in Vancouver
Worried about making new friends in high school? Wondering how you're going to survive homework assignments, find new activities, become more independent and keep a positive outlook on life?

Boys 4 Real is an after-school program in Vancouver, offered at selected schools to help Grade 7 boys with their transition to high school. A variety of activities will take place including games, small group discussions, skits and a community service learning project. The themes explored include healthy relationships, masculinity, media and violence. Through these after-school activities, you can learn to feel more confident and prepare for your transition from elementary to high school.
There are two session per year, and each session runs for seven weeks: October to December and February to April.
Parents of participating boys are invited to an information session where they learn about the program and how to help their sons deal with the challenges of high school.
Boys 4 Real runs parallel to Welcome to My Life. Both programs are presented by YWCA Vancouver in partnership with the Vancouver School Board and the University of British Columbia's Learning Exchange. Each program is facilitated by two university/college students, a High School Mentor and one mature volunteer known as a Wisdom Champion Mentor. These facilitators will be a great resource for you, answering questions and giving you tips and skills to help build your confidence to succeed in high school.
