Eco-internship program for youth

Thanks for your interest, but YEIP is now closed.

The Youth Eco Internship Program (YEIP) is a YWCA Canada-YMCA collaboration that aims to place 300 young people across the country with not-for-profit organizations in internships related to sustainability.

YWCA Metro Vancouver plans to recruit 100 diverse, unemployed youth across Western Canada and to match them with environmental, women's, and community-serving host organizations on paid three, six or nine month placements. Priority is given to organizations offering internships with an "eco" focus.

The program helps young Canadians enhance skills and gain essential work experience needed to secure future employment, while stimulating the not-for-profit sector through improvements in developing greener, more sustainable infrastructure in the country.

Applications for interns can be found at www.yeip.ca. Intern candidates are requested to fill out the online application, attach their resume and submit online. PDFs are available to download and can be forwarded by email or mailed in.

Applications for hosts can also be found at www.yeip.ca. Hosts apply through the YWCA, rather than the YMCA.

We encourage applicants from visible minority, Aboriginal, immigrant, refugee and traditionally marginalized communities, and we are committed to providing employment accommodation support for youth with disabilities wherever reasonably possible. The process involves the application as well as filling out separate position descriptions for each opportunity being offered, each of which can be submitted through the website or saved as PDFs and emailed or mailed in. Member associations are eligible to apply for a maximum of two interns.

More info and application forms can be found at www.yeip.ca. Questions regarding the program can be directed to Theresa James, Manager for the Youth Eco Internship Program (Western Region), on the toll-free line 1 877 VAN YWCA (826 9922), or by email tjames@ywcavan.org.

This program is funded by Canada's Economic Action Plan.
