Indo-Canadian Business Association golf tournament helps single moms in Surrey

Members of the Indo-Canadian Business Association (I-CBA) hosted a charity golf tournament, raising $28,000 in support of YWCA Metro Vancouver’s new supportive housing development for single moms in Surrey.

The I-CBA raised the funds in August 2009 through a day-long golf tournament and auction at Morgan Creek Golf Course, who generously donated the green fees.

Single mothers in the Surrey community need the support. More than 80% of single-parent families in Surrey are led by women, a third of whom live below the poverty line. And the waiting lists for subsidized housing are long.

“The Indo-Canadian Business Association realizes that issues for single mothers are a universal growing issue that is not always given the attention it needs,” says Jolly Dhaliwal, I-CBA Director and Chair of the golf tournament committee. “I-CBA, along with our community, would like to be a part of such a great cause and help out the YWCA with this tournament.”
