Informational Interviewing
An information interview involves meeting with professionals currently working in your field of interest. Through these interviews, you can gain valuable career advice, a better understanding of the industry and the ability to make more informed decisions about your career path and job search. Just as importantly, by informational interviewing, you are actively building a network of contacts and you may possibly walk away with job referrals.
Even if the company you interview with isn’t hiring, they are bound to know other professionals in the field who can help you access the hidden job market (over 80% of jobs are not advertised but gained through networking). Informational interviewing is a great way to make contacts in your industry and show potential employers that you have a true interest to build a career in the field.
