National Volunteer Week: April 27 - May 3
YWCA Vancouver is pleased to be honouring its volunteers during National Volunteer Week.
Last year, YWCA Vancouver’s team of 450 volunteers donated 26,000 hours of their time, participating in a variety of areas including child care, mentorship, administration, youth programs, housing, Health + Fitness, at the YWCA Thrift Shop and at Crabtree Corner, our family resource centre in the Downtown Eastside.
National Volunteer Week is the largest annual event that celebrates the work of the volunteer. YWCA Vancouver’s volunteers span from 10 years old to 89, and our longest-serving volunteer has been working with us since 1975
The YWCA also has a large community of corporate volunteers, like Scott Construction, who have collected donations for our holiday Presents of Peace program, and they also refurbished furniture at Munroe House, a second stage transitional house for women escaping abuse. This spring, they will be rebuilding a fence at Semlin Gardens, a housing development for single mothers and their families.
The YWCA could not carry out its work without the assistance of its dedicated volunteers. Their skills, passion and contributions have a great impact on the community.
