UBC Bookstore, so much more than a bookstore

Each holiday season the staff from the UBC Bookstore put on the party of the year at YWCA Emma’s Early Learning and Care Centre. The bookstore donates a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and gifts for the children, and staff volunteer their time to put on this unforgettable event.

The evening is a magical experience for the teen moms and their children, who each receive a special gift from Santa.

YWCA Emma’s Early Learning and Care Centre cares for the children of these young mothers while they complete their high school education at Sir Charles Tupper Young Parents program. 

UBC Bookstore also sponsors the YWCA youth programs, Welcome to My Life and Boys 4 Real, by providing journals for each Grade 7 girl and boy who participates in the program. The journal is a special keepsake that encourages the girls and boys to continue the program’s module on self-reflection.
