Welcome to My Life
Worried about making new friends in high school? Wondering how you're going to survive homework assignments, find new activities, become more independent and keep a positive outlook on life
?
Welcome to My Life is an after-school program offered at selected schools throughout Metro Vancouver to help Grade 7 girls with their transition to high school. The sessions run from October to December and February to April.
The program runs once a week for seven weeks, and each session includes a combination of activities such as games, journal writing, small group discussions and a community service learning project. The themes explored include healthy relationships, body image, values and safety. Through these activities, you can learn to feel more confident and prepare for your transition to high school.
Parents of participating girls are invited to an information session where they learn about the program and how to help their daughters deal with the challenges of high school.
Welcome to My Life runs parallel to Boys 4 Real. Both programs are presented by YWCA Vancouver in partnership with the Vancouver School Board and the University of British Columbia's Learning Exchange. Each program is facilitated by two university/college students, a High School Mentor and one mature volunteer known as a Wisdom Champion Mentor. These facilitators will be a great resource for you, answering questions and giving you tips and skills to help build your confidence to succeed in high school.
