Welcome to My Life
Worried about making new friends in high school? Wondering how you're going to survive homework assignments, find new activities, become more independent and keep a positive outlook on life?
Welcome to My Life is a fun and interactive program offered at selected schools in the Lower Mainland to help Grade 7 girls with their transition to high school. After-school sessions run from October to December and February to April.
The program runs once a week for seven weeks and each session includes a combination of activities such as games, journal writing, small group discussions and a community service learning project. Through these activities, you can learn to feel more confident in yourself and prepare for your transition to high school.
Parents of participating girls are invited to a one and a half hour session called Positively Parents, where they learn about the program and how to help their daughters deal with the challenges of high school.
Welcome to My Life is presented by YWCA Vancouver in partnership with the Vancouver School Board and the University of British Columbia's TREK Program. TREK students are fun undergraduate students who are becoming community leaders. They will facilitate the program in your school and be a great resource for you, answering questions and giving you tips and skills to help build your confidence to succeed in high school.
