Status: Term Part-Time (28 hours/week – 3 month contract)

Location: YWCA Crabtree Corner, 533 East Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC

YWCA Crabtree Corner is an emergency childcare and community centre in the Downtown Eastside that provides services for women and their families.  The FASD Coordinator will provide education, support, and advocacy on issues pertaining to FASD in the Downtown Eastside Community.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitating two FASD peer support groups with an educational as well as preventative focus.
• Raising awareness on issues pertaining to FASD in the community through public presentations and advocacy.
• Provide one-to-one support to families dealing with FASD.
• Working collaboratively with community professionals to provide consistent and congruent support to families dealing with FASD.

Qualifications:
The candidate must have in-depth knowledge of FASD and how it pertains to children and families. Extensive group facilitation and presentation skills are required. Knowledge of harm reduction and addictions are also important. Demonstrated skills in community development, advocacy and peer support, as well as knowledge on issues facing families living in severe poverty are desired.
